The initiation of a Patients' Association in 1993 has led to a successful patient-practice partnership and a resulting improvement in services. The objective of The Elliott Hall Medical Centre Patients' Association, (EHMCPA) was to harness the support of patients to help the Primary Health Care Team develop a service sensitive to the needs of the locality.

It has resulted in the rekindling of community spirit, a partnership between the practice and the patients, the shaping of the patient service, and the development of volunteer activities.

Patients in Partnership

The EHMCPA is a registered charity that provides services directly to patients, supports patients' groups, liaises closely with the practice, and organises fundraising events to support these initiatives.

The Patients' Association newsletter, The ElliottEar, shares the Association's activities and conveys important medical news to every patient registered at Elliott Hall Medical Centre. All patients receive a copy of the ElliottEar delivered to their homes twice a year. The newsletter, supported by sponsorship, is currently produced and delivered free of charge by volunteers working for the Association.

The NHS Beacon Programme

The EHMC practice holds a BEACON status for its work with the Patients' Association. From time to time the practice has held and facilitated open days to enable us to pass on what we have learned. We welcome enquiries and interest from other Primary Care Organisations.

The ElliottEar

The ElliottEar is a bi-annual publication produced by committed volunteers from the Patients' Association. It details changes and developments in the Practice, the continuing work of dedicated people in their voluntary work and fundraising capacities.

The magazine is distributed to patients and includes articles from the clinicians as well as health advice.
