treatment.

Community Midwife.
The midwife is based in the Community Midwives Department in
After confirming a pregnancy the Doctor will refer the patient to the
midwife. The first appointment is known
as the ‘booking in’ appointment
and lasts approximately one hour – this is always done by a midwife from the
hospital that the lady has chosen to have her baby.
For subsequent antenatal checks, ladies can see the midwife at the surgery
(regardless of hospital delivery).
These sessions are on alternate weeks, Friday afternoons 1.30 – 3.30 pm
We strongly recommend that ladies see the midwife for antenatal checks, in preference to the
doctors at the surgery , as they have up to date specialist knowledge
on current provision that will help support the lady during pregnancy. If you are unable to attend at the prescribed
times, you can make a doxtor’s appointment instead.
Community
Physiotherapy Service
The CPS offers you a choice of
venues, that includes EHMC, to receive physiotherapy.
When your GP has referred you for a physiotherapy
assessment you will be given a leaflet containing a telephone number for you to
make
an appointment at your chosen venue.
Following your first assessment you may be offered exercises to do at home or a course of
treatment.

Counselling In General Practice

(sessions held at NPH ) and for individual sessions (held at the surgery on a
Thursday afternoon). Peter Sabatelli is the named link with our practice
and he provides support using a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) method. A
doctor or nurse will discuss options with you, and refer as appropriate.
Note that Government figures indicate that up to 30% of the problems that
patients consult
their GPs about have a psychological component. Studies suggest that
counselling is popular
among patients and the majority of patients benefit from a psychological
approach.
Issues that patients bring may include depression, bereavement, anxiety,
stress, relationship
problems and difficulties adjusting to recent crises and life events. The first
one or two
appointments will be for assessment purposes. It presents an opportunity
to talk about the
problems is some detail with the aim of deciding how best to offer help .
Questions that may be
asked include the nature of the problems, the period for which they have
existed and past
treatments. The Counsellor may ask about different areas of the patient's life
in order to build up
a picture of the person, not just the problems. Depending on the problems,
support and counselling
will be offered or a more active treatment pursued. Sometimes patients may need
to be referred
to another agency specialising in a particular difficulty.
