Macmillan nurses are on hand to provide
support for all palliative patients.
Macmillan registered nurses are specially trained
staff, who have a wide range of education and experience in palliative care. They are in contact with the
local GPs and work as part of a multi-disciplinary team of health and social
professionals, co-ordinating care and providing continuity between hospital,
hospice and home.
The level of involvement of the Macmillan
nurses can vary from telephone advice to a single meeting or continued support
over a longer period, depending on individual needs. Referrals are made by the
GPs or in a hospital clinic.

A midwife from
Once a lady is referred for antenatal care, she is called for her “booking in” appointment by
the hospital she has chosen to have her baby at. Subsequent appointments can be
made with the midwife here at the surgery, regardless of where baby will be
delivered. We recommend that patients see the midwife for their antenatal care whenever
possible, as they are able to offer the most up-to-date specialist support and
advice.

We have phlebotomy clinics at the Medical
Centre several times each week.
These are all in the mornings, so that the samples can be taken to the hospital
laboratory at lunchtime. Most tests can be carried out in house, but you
will be
asked to make an appointment at The Wealdstone Centre if you need a Glucose
Tolerance Test.
